BASICS 1: Jesus the KingDescription:BASICS 1: Jesus the King"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations . . . teaching them to obey everything I have commanded."-Jesus, speaking to His apostles after His resurrection Discipleship is at the core of God's mission in the world. The BASICS Wholistic Discipleship series is designed to help believers become followers of Christ, applying His teachings to every area of life. Jesus summarized His teachings to every area of life. Jesus summarized His commands with: 1) "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." 2) "Love your neighbor as yourself." Loving God represents the spiritual, or vertical, dimension of discipleship. Loving neighbors represents the social, or horizontal dimension. Both are needed for a balanced understanding of Jesus' teachings--and for authentic discipleship. This balance can be called "wholistic discipleship." BASICS is ideal for small groups, as it is designed for interactive learning. Participants build relationships with one another as they study Scripture and challenge one another to apply it to their lives. BASICS is built on the teachings of Jesus, with a strong emphasis on Jesus' teachings on the Kingdom of God, our relationship to it, and our responsibilities in it. Book 1 covers eleven topics which, when applied, help disciples form a solid foundation for following Jesus the King. "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock." -Jesus, at the end of His "Sermon on the Mount" |
